The Beginning of Wise Moon Garden

The beginning of the pandemic was a highly uncertain time. When Humboldt County went under COVID restrictions everything had to shut down. School was switching to remote instruction and we had propagated and planted seeds for a spring plant sale that unfortunately would not be occurring.

The school greenhouse had to be cleared out and all the students were sent home with the nursery starts. This was the beginning of the transformation of our front lawn into a garden.

When we took on the nursery plants they were mostly annuals with some perennials. Now we had the plants home it was time to get planning and digging.

Within a month tall flowers started to emerge from the tiny starts. By the end of the summer the flower stalks were still in bloom and the row of blooms had garnered appreciation from daily visitors.

Last year we added the addition of two greenhouses. One dedicated to permaculture that is in the backyard nursery. Then the front greenhouse is used for nursery starts in Spring and operates as a hot house for tomatoes and peppers in the Summer.
